This wording leads me to believe that on October 4th, we'll get access to 'Overwatch 1.5'. The upcoming competitive shooter from an embattled Activision Blizzard was expected to launch in 2023. Blizzard will release Overwatch 2 this October on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X as a free-to-play game with cross-play and cross-progression. This is the most significant release in Overwatch history since its debut, and it will begin with early access to a new PvP experience, heroes, maps, and more with a new, free-to-play model. In other news, Microsoft has said that any multiplatform game it acquires will remain multiplatform, and Street Fighter 6 will have cross-play. Overwatch 2 is going free-to-play this October. Perhaps, going free-to-play is the right way forward as long as it guarantees ample content to keep players coming back. The events kept getting recycled, the cosmetics were no longer enticing enough to work for, and the queues continued to get longer and longer on the PS4.

Zarmena writes… Overwatch is my most-played game from last gen and it still holds a special place in my heart, but I’d be lying if I said I have the urge to go back and pick it up again.
#WILL OVERWATCH 2 BE FREE PC#
The game will be available on October 4 on PC and consoles. During the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, Activision Blizzard finally unveiled the release date of Overwatch 2. The PvP mode of the game will be free-to-play and feature a new hero, Junker Queen. Opinion: Going free-to-play might breathe new life into Overwatch Overwatch 2 will come out on PC and consoles on October 4. However, the upcoming game comes with a campaign as well so that part is likely to be sold as a standalone experience or it could be bundled with some kind of bonuses to be used in multiplayer. Since Overwatch’s PvP multiplayer aspect is going to be unified between both games, it means Overwatch 2‘s multiplayer will be free-to-play as well.
